Oxford proving popular for potential property buyers

31st October 2018

A recent Homes & Property article focused on why Oxford is a prime choice for buyers leaving London. Having grown up in the area, it is easy to take our amazing city for granted but it seems that an increasing number of individuals looking to leave London are now putting Oxford at the top of their list.

When thinking about Oxford there are many things that come to mind. With its beautiful skyline, stunning architecture and historical University, (not to mention Harry Potter and Inspector Morse) is it any wonder that Oxford is proving to be a popular choice for potential property buyers moving away from London.

Whilst the increasing property values are something to be celebrated, many people are now finding themselves priced out of the London market and are looking for an attractive and affordable alternative that still provides them with a strong link to the nation’s capital. In comparison, for those selling in London and looking to either invest or relocate to Oxford, prices have been steadily increasing and keeping up with inflation, making now an ideal time to invest in the city’s property.

Oxford has long since enjoyed a reputation as a provider of quality education not exclusive to the university. For those with families they are spoilt for choice when it comes to good schools and when teamed with its prime location between the Chilterns and the Cotswolds, an escape to the countryside is only ten minutes away whilst a train from Oxford to Paddington takes only 58 minutes. Oxford is adding ‘commuter city’ to its already lengthy credentials

Plans were unveiled this summer for Oxford North providing a 64 acre ‘gateway’ to the city which will provide an additional 500 homes. Whilst there is little on offer in the way of new homes in the city centre, the new developments are a mere twenty minute cycle ride away allowing easy access to the train station and are of course connected to the extensive bus network that connects the city. This accessibility provides many more opportunities for professionals and families alike allowing them to make the jump whilst still enjoying city life, maintaining a strong connection to London and capturing all the charisma and charm that Oxford and its surrounding areas have to offer.
