Charitable giving
Each office has its own Charity of the Year and embark on an ambitious fundraising programme for their charity - running marathons, taking part in sporting challenges and hosting events to raise much needed funds. Please see below for a list of the charities each office supports for this year.
Community ventures
Our staff are involved in all kinds of community ventures – from acting as charity trustees and school governors through of holding non-executive roles with local enterprise partnerships. Fundraising, volunteering and mentoring initiatives all play a part, benefitting hundreds of charities, organisations and individuals each year. Our people are encouraged to lend their practical help and support and receive a volunteering day and the freedom to choose who and how they use this to benefit their local community. From volunteering in schools to taking part in environmental projects their efforts help drive positive change.
Supporting local business
We work with a number of regional business groups to help promote and create opportunities for local businesses and the people who run them by helping protect trade and drive forward economic prosperity in the regions in which we operate.
Investing in next generation lawyers - Growing Ambitions
We are proud to host our annual Growing Ambitions programme welcoming teenage tenants nominated by housing associations the chance to spend a week at the firm. Growing Ambitions has provided young people with the chance to gain work experience in a legal environment they may otherwise not have access to. The aim is to equip the students with knowledge of the skills and experience they will need to build a career in law, and to simply understand how the life of a solicitor might play out each day across the different practice areas in our firm.
As well as the legal aspect, this is also a valuable opportunity for these young people to understand and experience office life. Growing Ambitions is one of a number of community schemes run by Blake Morgan to help inspire people who are starting out in the world of work. They also include the firm’s work with the PRIME initiative, which offers work experience to young people from less privileged backgrounds.
Investing in next generation lawyers - Mentoring
We are committed to widening access to the legal profession whilst making a difference to our clients, people and communities. This includes: Our legal experts give their time and share their advice and expertise to help aspiring and developing professionals through the Oxford Brookes Mentoring Scheme. Also: Through the Brunel University London Mentoring Scheme we match our lawyers with legal students supporting them with professional and personal development.
