Regulatory update and preparing for change
On 1 January 2025 key provisions of the UK’s Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act (DMCCA) 2024 were introduced on merger control and the regulation of digital markets, with the new consumer protection regime expected to come into force from April. The new public procurement rules took effect from 24 February, alongside the new failure to prevent fraud corporate offence, which will take effect from 1 September. And the regulation of AI, data protection and sustainability are evolving.
Hosted and led by Partner, Anthony Woolich, Blake Morgan is pleased to have hosted a roundtable discussion at our London office, as part of our Counsel+ forum, our platform specifically for in-house lawyers.
This important regulatory update and discussion was also an opportunity for senior legal counsel to get to know each other, share experiences and thoughts about their roles and businesses in an informal and confidential environment.
The session provided essential guidance on the key aspects of the new legislation, the implications and challenges for businesses in the UK and practical tips for compliance. We addressed regulatory changes on:
- Competition law
- Digital markets, AI, and data protection
- Consumer protection
- Failure to prevent fraud
- Public procurement
- Sustainability
The session was run on a discreet, Chatham House Rules basis.
