EDI - what is it, why is it important, and how to implement it?
EDI is a very familiar phrase but what does it mean in practice and what are the implications for employers?
Employers will be aware of their legal obligations to ensure that their staff are treated fairly at work. Beyond legal compliance, there is a clear business case for being a diverse and inclusive employer but for many organisations, promoting EDI initiatives is also important because it aligns with their values.
Whilst many employers want to implement EDI initiatives, some may be uncertain about what this entails and in the current economic climate, might wonder where EDI should sit on their priority list.
In the webinar, Employment partner Rajiv Joshi and our two new members of the team, Legal Director Jane Biddlecombe and Associate Louis Howlett:
- Explained what is meant by equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Considered how EDI initiatives can be an important tool for recruitment and retention and improved employee engagement.
- Discussed how to ensure that EDI initiatives are lawful and don’t inadvertently discriminate.
- Provided an overview of recent employment and case law developments in the EDI context and what we can expect for the remainder of 2024.
- Considered how to measure the effectiveness of EDI initiatives.
