What is next for employment law?
The reform of employment law was a pillar of Labour’s election campaign. This was confirmed in the King’s Speech in the summer when the Government announced that it will introduce two new employment Bills:
- The Employment Rights Bill and
- The Draft Equality (Race and Disability) Bill
In the webinar, Employment Partner Rajiv Joshi, Associate Elinor Rowlands and Senior Practice Support Lawyer Debra Gers:
- Discussed the high-profile changes to day-one employment rights, in particular, protection from unfair dismissal and the impact on probationary periods
- Considered the implications for employers on the banning of zero-hour contracts
- Explained how the Government intends to repeal minimum service levels and ensure that industrial relations are based around good faith negotiations
- Considered the end to “fire and rehire” and changes to the Code of Practice
- Provided an overview of other key elements of the two Bills
- Explained what action employers should take to comply with the new duty take reasonable steps to protect workers from sexual harassment.
