During a thought-provoking discussion, Viv Groskop, an award-winning comedian and author, and Harriet Hastings, founder of the luxury biscuit company Biscuiteers, who were recently awarded best eCommerce in ‘lockdown’ at the 2020 eCommerce Awards, brought together their knowledge and experience to consider:

Blake Morgan is working with the Women’s Prize Trust on this event, a charity which encourages women of any background or age to raise their voice and share their story. Harriet is the managing director of the Women’s Prize for Fiction and worked together with Viv, who was a judge for this year’s 2020 Prize.

Viv Groskop is a writer, critic, broadcaster and stand-up comedian. She mainly writes for the Guardian and Observer and on television appears regularly on BBC2‘s Newsnight, BBC1 Breakfast and Sky News. Viv is the author of How to Own the Room: Women and the Art of Brilliant Speaking, which is full of tips, takeaways and invaluable insights, for anyone keen to develop their public presence, own your own voice and win people over. Viv hosts her own Top 10 iTunes podcast of the same name, focusing on interviewing inspirational women. One of Viv’s most recent books, Lift as You Climb, is part self-help guide, part master class in survival skills for life and work, and asks what you can do to make things better for others without disadvantaging yourself. Viv was a judge for the 2020 Women’s Prize for Fiction.
Harriet Hastings
Founder and managing director of Biscuiteers
Harriet Hastings is the founder and managing director of Biscuiteers, the original luxury biscuit company offering hand-iced biscuit gifts direct to customers worldwide. Harriet started her career in publishing and spent the next 10 years as the consumer brands director of a top 20 PR agency before leaving to start Biscuiteers after the birth of her fourth child. She founded the company in 2007 with the ambition of creating a new sector in the luxury gift market. Biscuiteers has gone from strength to strength and now has two icing cafes in London and a thriving corporate business creating bespoke branded gifts for luxury brands including Cartier, Tiffany and Christian Dior. Biscuiteers now ices more than 2.5 million biscuits a year. In 2018 Harriet was awarded the Natwest Everywoman Award and she is also the managing director of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the most prestigious annual book award celebrating and honouring women’s fiction.
