Jonathan has been practising for over 21 years. Following a successful career in criminal law, Jonathan joined the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) as a Deputy Clerk in 2015 and clerked some of the Tribunal’s most complex, sensitive and high-profile cases.

Main areas of practice

Jonathan’s work at the SDT involved engaging and liaising with applicants, respondents, witnesses, legal representatives and members of the press and public. Jonathan was responsible for providing legal advice to the Tribunal members and for drafting Judgments and Memoranda, clearly setting out the reasons for the Tribunal’s decisions.

Jonathan also made decisions on case management applications and issued directions to ensure that substantive hearings were effective.

Career

Jonathan graduated in Law and Politics (LLB) from Cardiff University in 1999. Having completed his Legal Practice Course (LPC) at Cardiff Law School in 2000, Jonathan qualified as a solicitor in 2002. Jonathan obtained his higher rights of audience (crime) in 2007. Jonathan represented clients at Police Stations, Magistrates, Youth and Crown Courts, including the conduct of trials.

Jonathan led a busy criminal legal aid department at an East London firm for over four years and was responsible for ensuring that it continuously developed new and effective ways of working.

Jonathan joined the SDT in 2015. In addition to his clerking work, Jonathan wrote briefing notes on relevant authorities from across the regulatory sphere and delivered effective training to Tribunal members and staff. Jonathan initiated and led the working party that resulted in the Tribunal’s first Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy.

Jonathan joined Blake Morgan in 2024.
