Blake Morgan announces charity partnership to raise vital funds for young people with cancer

Posted on 12th August 2022

Law firm Blake Morgan has teamed up with a cancer charity for children and young people to raise vital funds and awareness.

The firm’s partnership with Young Lives vs Cancer was inspired by a member of staff whose close friend received support from the charity following a cancer diagnosis.

Solicitor Rhian Davies was inspired to nominate the charity as Blake Morgan’s official charity of the year after her friend Victoria was diagnosed with cancer and received support from a Young Lives vs Cancer social worker.

Rhian explained: “My dear friend Victoria battled a brain tumour for five years before passing away at the age of 25 in 2021. Victoria received support from Young Lives vs Cancer, who helped her through difficult circumstances.

“Victoria was smart, driven and an amazing person to be around. We hope to support the charity that gave her so much support, so that other young people in similar circumstances can receive the help and support they deserve.”

Last year in South Wales, Young Lives vs Cancer helped 143 families find the strength to face cancer. The charity awarded 138 financial grants to the value of £26,670 to help families cope with cancer costs. The Cancer Costs report from the charity found that families with a child undergoing active cancer treatment spend an extra £600 a month.

Cerys Sadler, Fundraising Engagement Manager for South & Mid Wales at Young Lives vs Cancer, said:

We are hugely grateful for the support of Blake Morgan. The money raised will ensure Young Lives vs Cancer can help families like Victoria's find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them.

She added: “We know that 12 more children and young people are diagnosed every day, and it is crucial that we are there for them in their time of need. We rely entirely on donations for our work, so support such as Blake Morgan’s is vital to our ability to help families.

“We look forward to working with this fabulous team over the next two years and wish them the best of luck in their fundraising efforts.”
