Posted on 8th January 2024

Leading law firm Blake Morgan has strengthened its tax and finance expertise with the appointment of two new partner appointments. The firm is welcoming back Natalie Coates to its Banking and Finance team in London, and Rob Thomas has been appointed to the Corporate team in Cardiff.

With 14 years’ experience in the sector, Natalie is making her return to Blake Morgan, having previously worked at the firm until 2016 when she became the senior legal adviser for one of Europe’s largest funders of asset finance and leasing. She originally joined Blake Morgan as a trainee solicitor before qualifying and rising to become an associate within the firm. During this time, she was commended in the renowned Chambers & Partners legal rankings, where she was praised for having “an infectious energy for seeing a transaction through” and “recognised in the market for her drive and enthusiasm, as well as for her commercial good sense.”

Over her career, she has worked on large and complex transactions, acting for both financiers and borrowers. Natalie’s expertise includes asset finance, including equipment and receivables financing, leasing, debt finance, restructuring and insolvency and risk frameworks, with a growing interest in transactions with digital and sustainability considerations.

Rob joins the firm from a previous role as an associate director within a corporate tax practice. As well as being a specialist in UK domestic and international corporate tax, Rob is also a chartered tax adviser, and a previous winner of a prestigious legal prize, LexisNexis, for his specialist tax knowledge.

Rob has experience working with a range of clients from private equity funds and large multi-national businesses to start-ups and individuals. Covering a variety of industries and sectors, his advice spans issues such as finance and private equity transactions, management buy-outs and equity arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, group structuring and reorganisations, and share scheme work. He has developed a particular expertise in tax structuring, predominantly for private equity transactions.
