Blake Morgan has scooped the top honour at the Wales Legal Awards 2020, with the Real Estate Team beating off stiff competition to be crowned ‘Overall Team Of The Year’.

In addition, the team scooped the Real Estate Team of the Year award for the second consecutive year.

Established in 2019, the Wales Legal Awards celebrate the success of those teams practising in and providing services to the legal profession in Wales.

The awards were judged by an expert, independent panel of judges from across the sector, including representatives from The Law Society Gazette, Presidents of regional law societies in Wales and Thomson Reuters.

The judging panels comprised a diverse range of highly experienced and peer-regarded individuals in their field. The virtual awards ceremony was live streamed on Friday 11th September 2020.

Charlotte Leyshon, Co-Founder, Wales Legal Awards, said:

“Now more than ever we need to celebrate the legal sector across the length and breadth of Wales. We’ve been inspired by the number of firms in the Welsh legal community that have stepped up to support each other during these unprecedented times.

“Our aim is to rally the sector at this challenging time to showcase the extraordinary talent, inventiveness, diversity and success in the sector, all of which have been amplified by Welsh legal businesses over recent months.”

On announcing Blake Morgan as the winner of the ‘Real Estate Team of the Year’ award, the judges tweeted:

“A truly phenomenal year for this well-thought out service provision for clients – well done!”

Commenting on the win, James Egan, Real Estate Partner, said:

“We are thrilled to have won Overall Team of the Year, as well as winning the Real Estate Team Of The Year award for a second time. These awards recognise the firm’s continued success and gives the whole team the recognition it deserves.

“The real estate team has always delivered high quality, commercial advice to an impressive list of local, national and international clients but to have maintained such high levels of service during these challenging times not only demonstrates the quality of the individuals within the team but also the strength of the team as a whole.  Both of these awards were very well deserved.”

The Overall Team Of The Year category, sponsored by Yolk Recruitment, was the judges’ choice category, to pick a winner of winners from across all the teams-based categories..

Sarah Castle, Divisional Head of Legal at Yolk Recruitment, said:

“The winner for this category stood out to the judging panel for several reasons. The added value they offer to their clients, both local and national includes an established project management team made up of surveyors, project managers and cost consultants based in Cardiff. They are first firm in the UK to offer that service to their clients to offer the ultimate client experience.

The panel were impressed with the mix of clientele, including social housing, health and social care, government, education and the charity sector to name a few. They stood out as ambassadors for wales in this field and spoke passionately about their work. Congratulations to the entire team!”
