Blake Morgan Private Client Partner talks all things Probate on BBC Radio Wales

Posted on 25th August 2023

Last week Partner, Lisa Davies, from Blake Morgan’s Private Client team was again interviewed on BBC Radio Wales. This time the topic was Probate.

Lisa Davies is fast becoming the ‘resident legal expert’ as she joined Anna Ryder Richardson, sitting in for Behnaz Akhgar, for Advice Hour on BBC Radio Wales last Thursday. Following the news at 3pm, and Robbie Williams ‘Let me entertain you’, Lisa spoke to Anna about the process of applying for probate with questions from the listeners flying in. Callers were particular interested in the responsibilities of acting as Executor and whether probate is always necessary. One of the callers had come across an on-line probate service costing £350 and Lisa elegantly suggested why this DIY service might not offer the complete solution in all circumstances!

There was a tricky question on how adopted children are treated as between their adoptive parents and their birth parents’ estates which led Lisa to explain about how estates could be challenged, particularly in the event of financial dependency.

Lisa wove in references to her previous Advice Hour sessions with a question on wills and powers of attorney. As ever, Lisa gave very practical advice to the audience, with one caller being concerned about joint property and how the burden of Inheritance Tax would fall when her father died.
