Homeless charity Huggard named Blake Morgan charity of the year

Cardiff Law firm Blake Morgan has announced their support for local charity Huggard.

The Welsh charity, whose services are centred around tackling homelessness and providing support and shelter to those who are forced to sleep rough, was selected as Blake Morgan’s chosen office charity for the next two years, through an office wide voting system.

Staff at Blake Morgan will now plan a calendar of events to raise funds for Huggard. So far, staff members have pooled goods to donate such as clothes, toiletries and garden furniture, and training is in action for a team who are taking on Cardiff Half Marathon in aid of the charity.

Richard Edwards, Chief Executive of Huggard said: “As Wales’ leading centre for rough sleepers, Huggard has seen a 40% rise in rough sleepers accessing our services in the last year and have responded to this by ensuring that our services are aimed at helping people off the streets rather than just simply helping them to stay there. The support of Blake Morgan will help us to provide the help, advice and support to change peoples’ lives for the better and for good.”

Kathryn Seaward, Corporate responsibility champion for Blake Morgan’s Cardiff office said:

“We are proud to support Huggard – a charity who works tirelessly to support vulnerable people in our community. Our goal is to both raise as much money as possible and also to offer our support by volunteering and raising awareness to help support projects that will provide housing, employment and training opportunities to help homeless people in Cardiff build a better future for themselves.”

This comes after the office’s two year fundraising stint with the Alzheimer’s Society ended. Since the charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society began in 2015, the office has raised over £15,000 through various fundraising activities including day centre visits, bake offs, quizzes and raffles, choir performances, half marathons and obstacle races such as Dirty Dozen.

Stacey Hawdon, Corporate Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru said “We’ve had a fantastic time working in partnership with the team at Blake Morgan and we’re overwhelmed at the level of support they’ve given us over the past two years.

“Not only have the staff raised an incredible £15,000 to date, but they’ve gone above and beyond by performing at our Carols by candlelight concert and decorating our Cardiff Day Centre at Christmas time, much to the delight of our service users!  The funds raised will continue to provide local services, support and information to the 45,000 people in Wales living with dementia.”
