Knowing the client is key to success

Blake Morgan Partner Penny Rinta-Suksi spoke to B4, a business community, about the key to success at the law firm.

A short video has been produced to give an insight into how relationships with clients are critical to a thriving long-term partnership.

Penny, a leading commercial lawyer in the Thames Valley, gave an example of how she supported a client whose business was in good shape but things changed overnight during the coronavirus pandemic.

The client needed a crucial shipment from China for their largest client’s most important event of the year but with China in shutdown, the shipment was in jeopardy. The client’s annual profits would disappear and they would face contractual penalties if the delivery did not arrive.

Penny said:

There was this overriding sense of panic.

The trust we had in one another was essential. When I advise clients in a similar crisis to this, the solution can often be found in the detail of the contract. We drafted the contract and the solution was in a particular force majeure clause.

Penny and the commercial team secured a contractual variation to benefit both parties.

She added:  “Knowing the law is given, at Blake Morgan it is our empathy and reassurance that stands us out. It is how we provide advice in a straightforward and commercial way. Our clients need to understand what their options are, the associated risks in relation to this and how they can move forward with confidence.”

Blake Morgan’s ACTS (Astute, Committed, Team player, Straightforward advice) principles are the backbone to how they work and help to give clients relevant, realistic solutions.
