Major milestone reached in plans for new sustainable school
Blake Morgan is providing project and cost management services to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council for Glyn-coch primary school. The school will achieve ‘Net Zero’ carbon in operation, as well as Passivhaus Standard, Building With Nature accreditation, and the WELL Building Standard.
The major milestone of unanimous approval from the Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council (RCTCBC) has been reached to give the go ahead to plans with the aim to complete in 2026.
Blake Morgan’s Project and Cost Management team have been working in collaboration with the RCTCBC client team and alongside architects Stride Treglown, as well as McCann and Partners, Willmott Dixon, PHG Consulting Engineers, PartB, Stantec and Carbon Consult Ltd.
The project is funded by Welsh Government and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council via the Sustainable Schools Challenge, which is an initiative that aims to deliver three new schools across Wales that embody environmental sustainability and stakeholder engagement throughout all stages of the design, build and operation.
The Blake Morgan team delivering the Sustainable Schools Challenge project, led by James Gundy are providing both Project and Cost Management services from Alex McCusker Project Director and Tom Cotter Senior Cost Manager. Alex commented:
