Southampton law firm raises over £1,000 for local families
Local law firm Blake Morgan has raised £1,190 for Winchester-based charity Friends of the Family, which supports parents and children who are experiencing difficulties in life.
Blake Morgan’s Family Law team hosted a quiz night on Thursday 23 May, attended by many other local law firms and barristers, raising £690 for Friends of the Family through ticket sales.
The charity quiz is an annual event in the firm’s Southampton office with a different charity dedicated to helping children and families supported each year. Last year, the Family Law team hosted it in the name of Simon Says, a local organisation supporting children through bereavement.
Friends of the Family’s services include help for mothers and fathers with young children, counselling, one-to-one support for children aged 5-13, and group activities for children such as after-school workshops and activity days throughout school holidays.
An additional £500 is also being contributed to the final total from the Blake Morgan’s Chair’s Charity Pot. This scheme aims to give a boost to fundraising efforts by the firm by building on the amount raised by staff. During the last financial year, the Chair’s Charity Pot contributed an additional £5,700 to the firm’s charity contributions.
Each of Blake Morgan’s five regional offices has its own chosen charity partner. This year, the Southampton office is also fundraising for Ben Pavitt’s Legacy of Love Fund, a fund that contributes to Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group in memory of local school pupil Ben Pavitt who passed away from lymphoma aged 16.
Jennifer Williamson, partner at Blake Morgan, said:
All of the charities that we champion at Blake Morgan do exceptional work for important causes and Friends of the Family is a prime example of this.
We feel privileged to have had the opportunity to partner with this wonderful charity and to support the valuable services they offer to local families in Winchester. Our quiz night, which the Family Law team hosts every year, was a great success, with colleagues and businesses from around Southampton getting together to raise money and put our pub quiz knowledge to the test!
