Wales Air Ambulance win the vote to be named the new Cardiff office charity
After a very successful two-year partnership with Young Lives vs Cancer, Blake Morgan’s Cardiff office has chosen a new charity. The Wales Air Ambulance charity won the vote to be named as the new office charity for the next two years.
At the beginning of their partnership with Young Lives vs Cancer, the Cardiff office set themselves the ambitious target of raising £10,000 to help children and young people facing and fighting cancer. As the partnership draws to an end, they are immensely proud and delighted to announce that the Cardiff office raised a total of £14,130. These vital funds have helped others in many ways, including:
- 5,500 copies of Fight Club, the official Young Lives vs Cancer magazine, showcasing the work our incredible supporters have enabled us to do – including news and stories from the families we support and their experiences with cancer.
- 2,200 sets of toiletries, washing powder, cleaning products and food
- 1,100 hours of care from the team around a family, so that they have the emotional, practical and financial support they need from Young Lives vs Cancer
- 495 Young Lives vs Cancer Big Bags. Young Lives vs Cancer Big Bags are given to families when their child is first diagnosed with cancer. They contain essential items for a hospital stay such as toiletries, a teddy, a thermal mug, Young Lives vs Cancer information booklets and much more. The bags help parents prepare for when their child begins treatment and they’re travelling to and from hospital a lot.
- 418 hours of a Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker’s time. They will aim to speak with children and young people with cancer, and their families, soon after diagnosis and help them to understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer, throughout treatment and beyond.
- 286 overnight stays in one of Young Lives vs Cancer’s Homes from Home, providing free self-catering accommodation near to specialist treatment centres, which are often many miles from a family’s own home. Head to our website to find out more about our Homes – you can even take a virtual tour online!
- 110 Young Lives vs Cancer grants, which we offer to families as soon as they come into contact with us to help meet the sudden extra costs that a cancer diagnosis brings.
- 66 days of support from a Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker. They will aim to speak with children and young people with cancer, and their families, soon after diagnosis and help them to understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer, through treatment and beyond.
Emma Bilton, CSR committee member in the Cardiff office said:
On behalf of the CSR committee and the charity we would like to thank everyone for their time, involvement, and donations over the last two years. Fundraising has come in many forms including skydives, marathons, pet competitions, sweepstakes, bake sales, quizzes, walks and bingo!
The office’s new partnership with Wales Air Ambulance commenced on the 1 May 2024 and the Cardiff office already have their first big fundraising event planned, a Wales coastal path walk on the 1 June.
The Wales Air Ambulance’s mission is to deliver lifesaving, advanced medical care to people across Wales, whenever and wherever they need it. The charity rely entirely on donations to raise £11.2 million every year to keep the helicopters in the air and fleet of rapid response vehicles on the road, so Blake Morgan’s donations is vital for their ability to help families.
