Paralegal – Court of Protection (6 months FTC)


We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic paralegal to join our Court of Protection team who are part of our highly successful private law succession and tax division at our Southampton office.  This is a 6 month fixed term role.

Excellent people skills is key, as the role involves communicating with a broad spectrum of individuals including those with vulnerabilities, their families, financial advisors, social workers accountants, brokers, banks and architects.   A social care or medical background would be highly beneficial and previous experience in a professional environment would be helpful.

A substantial part of the role will involve financial matters, costing of work by the Senior Courts Costs Office and financial reporting and experience in accounting and finance would be preferred.

Full training and support will be given for this role.

Typical Workload

  • Day to day contact with clients, many of whom come to us as a result of brain injury or dementia diagnosis
  • Preparing applications to the Court of Protection for the appointment of a deputy or amendments to orders
  • Telephone enquiries from clients and supportive administration including filing
  • Preparing deputyship reports and accounts
  • Schedule and visit clients and their families alongside the team leader
  • Make regular payments for clients and keep accurate schedules of these payments. Also forecast forward spending and creating of budgets
  • Preparing information for tax returns
  • Processing and communicating with the costs draftsman for assessed costs

Skills / Experience Required

The successful applicant will be a law graduate with previous experience or a demonstrable interest in medical or social care interventions.  Some previous work experience within a law firm would be highly desirable.
