Partner – Charities


Our nationally recognised charity lawyers provide expert advice to over 500 charities, not-for-profit and social enterprise organisations in England and Wales. The firm provides a fully comprehensive service on every aspect of their legal requirements.

We seek a senior charities lawyer with circa 10 years PQE (currently operating at Legal Director or Partner level) to lead our Charities practice and manage and supervise our charities team in our Reading office. With responsibility for providing first class legal advice to a developed and established client base across England and Wales the appointee will play a key role in our Charities practice firm wide. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in the not-for-profit field both as a legal professional and in the marketplace. You will be technically competent with excellent interpersonal and client development skills. You will be expected to service a very loyal client base and to contribute to new business attraction.

About You

You will be a Legal Director or Partner at a similar firm, and be experienced in providing advice relating to trading company start up and set up matters, structuring charities and incorporating charities or social enterprises. You will be comfortable dealing with reorganisations and providing commercial and legal advice to trusts companies, associations, Charitable Incorporated Organisations, Community Benefit Societies. You will have experience of handling Charity Commission, member, and trustee issues and of trading and income generation matters. You will be expected to have experience of advising schools and on academy conversions and structures.

You must be able to evidence the following:

  • The ability to generate work from an existing client following
  • Experience of leading and managing a team
  • Strong academics and technical ability
  • Substantial experience in acting for charities, schools, and other not-for-profit organisations
  • Strong business development skills
  • Exemplary client relationship management skills and commitment to service excellence
  • Drive and ambition
  • A willingness to support others and a flexible team focused approach.
