International Women's Day webinar
We were delighted to be joined by guest speakers Professor Cara Aitchison, President and Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff Metropolitan University and Sophie Howe, Future Generations Commissioner for Wales.
Professor Cara Aitchison joined Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2016 as President and Vice-Chancellor and is also a Professor of Geography and Cultural Economy. She is committed to values-driven leadership that promotes the integration of widening participation with civic engagement, economic prosperity and international diplomacy. Her practice is informed by her research and she has published 10 books, presented over 50 international keynote papers, published over 100 research papers and is most widely known for her work on identity, inclusion, cultural economy and rural sustainability.
With a remit set out in law to be “the guardian of the interests of future generations in Wales”, Sophie Howe is the world’s only Future Generations Commissioner and her role is to provide advice to the Government and other public bodies in Wales on delivering social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being for current and future generations and assessing and reporting on how they are delivering.

Professor Cara Aitchison joined Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2016 as President and Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Geography and Cultural Economy. She was previously Vice-Chancellor of Plymouth Marjon University (2013-2016), Head of Moray House School of Education and Chair in Social and Environmental Justice at Edinburgh University (2010-13), Dean of the Faculty of Education and Sport at the University of Bedfordshire (2008-10), Professor in Human Geography at UWE Bristol (2003-08) and spent the first decade of her higher education career in London.

Future Generations Commissioner for Wales
